Offset the Rising Cost of Diapers
Temperatures won’t be
the only things rising over the next few months – consumers can expect to pay
more for a variety of goods this summer, from the coffee they drink each
morning to the shoes they wear to work. Parents of infants will want to get
hold of Huggies coupons, as diapers are among the items expected to see price
increases.
In April, Kraft Foods announced that they would raise the price of their Maxwell House coffee by a whopping 22%, up to 70 cents per pound, following the announcement by competitor Smuckers that the price of Folgers brand coffee would be increasing by 10%. Adding a teaspoon of sugar may not be enough to cut the bitter taste of price increses, but coffee drinkers won’t be the only ones affected.
Nike recently announced that the price of their shoes is going to go up – though they did not disclose just how much – and Kimberly-Clark announced that they would be raising prices on Huggies diapers, Pull-Ups, and Scott and Cottonelle toilet paper.
So what’s behind the price increases? It starts at the beginning of the production chain -- sticker prices on raw materials (from gasoline to agricultural products) have surged in the past year. As anyone who has paid a visit to the pump recently can attest, gasoline prices have risen 11% since this time last year, and These prices have led to higher production and operating expenses for businesses, which have been reluctant to increase prices in the sluggish economy but have been forced to do so to keep up profit margins for investors.
Consumers can fight rising prices by stocking up on products they know they’ll need before price increases set in. Kimberly Clark announced that their prices will not rise until June 19, so now might be a good time to stock up on toilet paper. Consumers can also use coupons found online – like these Huggies coupons – to keep their budgets in check.
