Dunkin Employee Busted in "Extra Sugar" Operation
There are some things you expect when you use Dunkin Donuts coupons – but prostitution isn’t really one of those things that I associate with America’s most popular based-goods chain (and I’m sure the execs at Dunkin would be happy to hear it). But as bizarre as it sounds, a 29-year-old New Jersey woman is actually facing prostitution charges for allegedly using her shift breaks to perform sexual services in exchange for extra cash.
The six-week investigation that uncovered this unusual arrangement was called “Extra Sugar” by the police who began investigating when they received an anonymous tip.
"I had gotten an anonymous tip," said leader of the investigative team Detective Sgt. Kyle Schwarzmann. "She was a night time employee (working 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.), supposedly a very good one."
Schwarzmann began staking out the Dunkin Donuts store and notices that, on multiple evenings, the employee in question went out to customers’ cars and remained there for up to a quarter of an hour. When he noticed money changing hands during one of these visits, the investigation went further.
Schwarzmann and fellow officers Robert Koehler and Scott Haigh went through the Dunkin drive-thru in plain clothes and spoke with the employee, who said that the men could call her if they were looking for a good time.
Officer Haigh parked in the restaurant’s lot and the suspect allegedly came out and gave the officer a pricelist for her services. A few days later, Haigh returned and the woman offered him a list of reduced prices – so Haigh said he had to go to the ATM to get enough to pay her, but he returned to arrest her. So far Dunkin Donuts employees haven’t commented on the case, but I’m 99.9 percent sure it’s an isolated incident and you shouldn’t be wary of using Dunkin Donuts coupons.
