Keep Your Pet Cool With These Pupsicles!
It’s getting hot hot hot! I begin to melt just thinking about temperatures over 100 degrees, but I know that the heat is certainly worse for my dog, who wears a full-length fur coat year round. You can help your dog stay cool this summer by walking him in the early morning and late evening hours when its cool, giving him plenty of water to drink, and making sure he has access to shade whenever he’s outside. You can also make these yummy peanut butter pupsicles for your pooch – because on a hot day, the Begin Strips you usually reward him just don’t quite hit the spot.
HERE’S WHAT TO DO:
In a small bowl, combine a cup of peanut butter with a little water or half of a mashed banana. These add-ins aren’t essential, but they thin the peanut butter a bit and help with the consistency of the popsicles when freezing.
Line an ice cube tray or cookie sheet with wax paper. Again the wax paper is optional – but it makes popsicle removal a lot easier.
Spoon the peanut butter/banana mixture into the cubes of the ice tray, or drop onto the cookie sheet like you would cookie dough if you don’t have an ice cube tray handy.
Pop your tray/cookie sheet in the freezer and let freeze for several hours. If you want to reuse the tray/sheet, you can pop the popsicles out after a few hours and store them in a bag in the freezer.
Once the pupsicles are frozen, they’re ready to serve – but they can be messy, so this is a treat you’ll probably want to serve outside. Your dog will love it – maybe even more than he loves his usual Begin Strips – and he’ll really appreciate the break from the heat.
