Heroic Pet Saves Family From Burning House
Here’s one awesome dog who definitely deserves a belly rub and some Eukanuba coupons. Pal, a mutt from Oklahoma, has been credited with saving his family when their house caught on fire.
Maybe the loyal pooch was returning the favor the Harmon family did him so many years ago, when he appeared on their doorstep with protruding ribs, matted fur, and a limp. The Harmon family nursed him back to health and gave him a loving home.
Last week, when the Harmon home caught on fire late Sunday night, Pal began pawing at his human parents and whining. They tried to shoo him away, but he refused – and when they opened the bedroom door, smoke poured in. The family pulled together to get their wheelchair-bound grandparents out of the burning structure before it was too late, and without Pal’s help they might not have made it.
“We probably would have died without him,” said Susan Harmon, Pal’s 53-year-old owner. “We don't know where he came from, maybe heaven.”
Pal made it out of the house alive, but paramedics had to treat the loyal pet for excessive smoke inhalation when they arrived at the scene. As a reward for his heroics, the family gave Pal a big bag of his favorite treats. He of course also got their love and appreciation.
Stories like this always bring tears to my eyes and remind me why dogs are such awesome pets – I can’t image a cat loyal enough to save its family from a fire! It may take a lot of Eukanuba coupons and energy to care for a dog, but they love they give in return is totally worth it.
