Protect Your Baby From Germs
When my best friend had her baby, she was so nervous about her little girl coming in contact with germs that I’m sure she would’ve put that baby in a bubble if you could buy baby bubbles at Babies-R-Us. She went through a million Huggies coupons because she was always changing its diaper in an effort to keep her clean.
Here’s what you really need to know about babies and germs to keep your little one healthy.
1) A newborn’s immune system is most vulnerable during the first six weeks. During this time, try to commit to breastfeeding, which has been shown to boost the immune systems of infants.
2) Keep tissues and hand sanitizer handy for when you introduce your baby to family and friends. Don’t hand your baby to anyone coughing, sneezing, or sniffling.
3) Avoid airplane travel or other forms of mass transit whenever possible. The confined environments of such vehicles can promote the transmission of germs.
4) Make sure you have the pediatrician’s number stored in your phone for emergencies. You probably won’t need it, but having this information handy can give you great peace of mind.
5) Guard your baby from strangers who may want to shower him with affection. You can gracefully refuse requests to hold the baby by telling strangers that you think your baby may have a cold you don’t want them to catch.
6) Fevers, feeding problems, and dehydration are serious issues for adults, bu they can be life-threatening for little ones. If your baby runs a high fever or goes through fewer than 4 diapers in a 24-hour period, call the pediatrician.
If you take these precautions, your baby should have a healthy and germ-free first few weeks. Want more baby-care tips? Check out Huggies.com, where you can also find Huggies coupons galore.
